Keeping those summer vibes going this week with beach inspired illustrations with lots of copy space ideal for book covers... Although I think the illustration with the parasol would make a good postcard too...Wish you were here? You bet! As Blake Shelton says in his song - Some Beach, "Some beach somewhere, There's a big umbrella casting shade over an empty chair, Palm Trees are growing and warm breezes blowing, I picture myself right there," Isn't that just a wonderful verse, you can almost hear the ocean lapping on the shore... So whether you're off to Bridlington or the Bahamas if you've slapped on the sun cream and you've grabbed your beach towel, I couldn't leave you without a bit of that summer sunshine vibe from The Beach Boys - Kokomo Enjoy! and Thanks for Reading!

Are you feeling the Summer Vibes yet? Hopefully this weeks set of illustrations which are available to purchase as Art Prints will help you to think of those long hot summer days... those lazy days spent by the pool or the beach, when time slows down and you hopefully get the chance to listen to some great music and charge those metaphorical batteries... Well, we can all dream can't we! Thinking of music though - as always! I wanted to share with you, a new musician that I discovered this week; an up and coming young country singer called Jackson Dean , you may have already heard of him, I particularly liked his song Wings...why not check it out if you have any of those hazy, lazy Summer Days lined up and let me know what you think... Happy Listening and Thanks for Reading!
The brief for this weeks illustrations was the word Luggage...as someone who loves all things Art Deco, I decided to try to combine the two in a contemporary way. After all the 1920's was a time when travel was an exciting experience, a chance to escape after the unsettling years of World War I. Train travel got faster and more comfortable for those that could afford it, the Motor Car became a mass produced product, thanks to the Model 'T' Ford, and for those with cash to spare, you could see the world on an ocean liner... From a design point of view, this is a time when travel posters really came into their own, inviting the public to take a trip from places such as Sheffield to Scarborough on the LNER railway, or visit far off shores such as Seattle or San Tropez. The Art Deco Society of New York's website has an interesting article written by Jack Rennart and David A. Scheider called 'A New Way of Seeing: History of Deco Travel Posters' , if you are interested in learning a little more about Travel posters from this period...Two of the popular illustrators who created travel posters whose work I admire, include the great A.M. Cassandre as well as in later years Lancashire's very own Tom Eckersley. And as you may know, I can usually be found listening to music, when I am drawing, and creating these illustrations was no exception, so I thought I would share with you a couple of the songs on my playlist to help give you a little more of that travel inspiration, they are the legendary Eagles song, 'Hotel California' and 'A Million Miles Away', a favourite of mine, originally by Rory Gallagher, but covered beautifully in this version by Davy Knowles...Happy Listening! Until next time, wherever you travel, stay safe and Thank You for Reading!
